It’s no secret that interviews can be stressful. You have to think about what you are going to wear, what questions to prepare for, and how you are going to explain any gaps in your resume. But, there is one more key thing you need to be thinking about: the interview questions you’re going to ask.
Typically, interviewers will ask you if you have any questions, and having interview questions prepared is going to give a much better impression. So, before you leave home, make sure you’ve asked yourself, “what questions should I ask in the interview?”
Here are some interview questions you should consider asking:
What would a typical day look like for me?
If you only ask one question, this is the one to ask. By asking this interview question, you’ll learn more about the role and the daily requirements. You’ll also learn how much the interviewer actually knows about the position. If they can’t answer the question with details, then it may be a sign the organization isn’t exactly prepared to hire someone, so be cautious.
How will you measure success for this role?
When you ask this question, you are showing that you want to be successful in any role, but you are also learning more about the organization. The answer to this question will also help you decide if you’ll be a good fit for the role and within the company. You need to know you can do everything that is expected of you before taking the job.
What is communication between management and staff like?
Internal communication is structured differently from organization to organization and it’s a crucial part. You need to learn what it is like at this particular organization and make sure you can function within the structure. You may find that there is a lack of communication for you or too much communication. Asking in your interview will give you a better idea of whether you will fit in or not.
What would you say are the best benefits of working here?
This is a great question to ask because you learn from an actual employee what they like about the organization. Hopefully, you get an honest answer and will be able to learn a lot. Think about what benefits you are looking for and see if they match what your interviewer is saying.
What are the next steps?
While you may be afraid of coming off as forceful, this question actually shows you are motivated and eager about the position. No matter how many questions you ask at the end of the interview, you should always close with this one because it ends on a strong note.
When preparing for your interview, think of questions to ask during the interview. It can look bad if you get to the end of an interview and don’t have anything to ask. So, as you are researching and learning about the organization, think of meaningful and specific questions about the organization.
