Using Twitter to Find a Job

Using social media sites like LinkedIn can open up a whole world of possibilities, even if you aren’t actively seeking a job. But with sites like Twitter, you can access even more resources in real time. And engagement is even simpler.

When you start using twitter, it’s best to think of it as a micro blogging site. Every tweet you send is like a tiny glimpse into who you are. Using Twitter to find a job takes your search to the next level. Not only are you able to find companies and possible job opportunities, but people are able to get a glimpse of who you are and why they may want to work with you. Here are a few things you need to do to make using Twitter to find a job most effective for you:

Professional and Person

Unlike with LinkedIn, potential employers want to see more of your personality coming through on your Twitter account. You should share your professional experiences, thoughts, and articles about the industry you work in, but you should also impart your personal thoughts and experiences, too. By doing this, potential employers have the opportunity to see what you are passionate about and what you do in your spare time so they can get a general sense of your personality.

Engage with People and Businesses

When it comes to using Twitter to find a job, you shouldn’t hesitate to reach out and ask for advice or if anyone has heard about a job opening. However, you shouldn’t make it all about that. This is a space for you to engage with people and businesses, which means retweeting, favoriting, and reply to tweets. A great way to build up your list of followers is to interact and engage with others.

Share Content

One of the best ways to set yourself apart on Twitter is to share relevant content about your specific industry. If you read an interesting article, then share it with your followers. Maybe you just have a thought about a hot topic in your industry. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and opinions. It will help people find you on Twitter and it will increase your engagement.

Tweet Chats

If you are new to Twitter, you may not be familiar with Tweet Chats. These chats are pretty simple, they typically focus on one subject, someone moderates questions, and anyone can choose to answer them. They are a great way to find new followers, find people to follow, learn, and establish yourself as knowledgeable in a certain subject. Simply follow along with any hashtag. Just be prepared for a flood of answers and tweets to follow. Luckily, there are some great tools that make doing this a lot simpler.

Using Twitter to find your next job doesn’t have to be overly complicated and in fact, you may find that Twitter makes the whole process a lot more enjoyable. Just remember to be yourself on this particular social network and share your personality and professionalism.
